San Jose De Gracia is located in Aguascalientes, Mexico
The town was flooded in 1673 and many people lost their homes and lives, but survivors started to built around the lake. In 1928, a dam was built to control the water. For the past few years the drought started to lower the water level of the lake. But last year, there has been rain and even snow. Now that the water level was unexpectedly rising, many businesses and buildings started to flood. The town is in a constant battle on the water level.
To attract tourism, you can visit the "Cristo Roto," the broken Christ. The story goes, a priest found a small Christ with no leg, no arm and the face was scratched off. The priest bought the object and took it to his home. He kept asking himself "who did this to you?" As days goes by, the priest decided to fix him. In one of his prayers, he received a response. He heard "please do not fix me. I forgave the person who did this to me. Focus more on your brothers and sisters that are disabled or need help."
There are some people that feel uncomfortable looking at the broken Christ. But it is very important to care for the ones in need.
